Brahma Muhurta in Indore: The Local Tradition
Indore's brahma muhurta belongs to its civic temples — Khajrana Ganesh and Annapurna Mata. Khajrana Ganesh Mandir, the city's most attended shrine, performs mangala aarti at 5:00 AM, and its Wednesday morning has a particular Indori observance: the entire approach road is lit with diyas from devotees' homes from 4:00 AM onwards. Annapurna Mata temple in Tilak Nagar has a distinctive brahma muhurta bhog tradition — the first cooked offering of the day, prepared in temple kitchens from 3:30 AM, is distributed to devotees who arrive in the pre-dawn hour. Bijasen Mata mandir, on the hill at the city's southern edge, is climbed pre-dawn for the brahma muhurta darshan during Navaratri; the climb is considered a tapa in itself. The Maheshwar ghat (90 km from Indore on the Narmada) is a major brahma muhurta destination during the Narmada Jayanti, with Ahilyabai's restored ghats filling with pilgrims from 4:00 AM. The Iskcon Indore at Bhawarkua follows the 4:30 AM mangala aarti.
